Students face closure of alternative schools because of L.A. County budget cuts – Los Angeles County education officials are planning to close nearly two dozen alternative schools because of budget cuts. These schools currently serve juvenile offenders on probation, expelled students, pregnant teens and new mothers and others who cannot attend traditional schools for different reasons. Teachers hope they can keep their jobs while students hope these places that give them an opportunity to learn will remain open.
