This is a Short Article About  Spiders.

Many people are afraid of spiders. There are many stories, movies and songs for kids about how scary spiders are. However, only a few types of spiders are really dangerous enough to hurt people.Spiders are actually very helpful, especially to farmers. Spiders only eat live prey like bugs and insects. By catching and eating insects, spiders keep crops and plants healthy.

Some spiders build webs and wait for their prey to get trapped. These spiders are called web builders. Other spiders do not build webs. Instead they search for and capture their prey. These spiders are known as wanderers.

Web builders use silk to build homes, catch prey and travel from place to place. Depending on what they are using it for, web builders make their silk strong or weak, sticky or slippery, thin or thick.. When a bug gets caught, the web builder usually wraps it with silk, bites it and saves the meal for when it gets hungry.

Wandering spiders do not build webs. Instead, they live on the ground, under rocks, inside trees and other hidden places. They are hunters who capture their prey. For example, Fishing Spiders skip across lakes or ponds to snatch up insects that land on the water. They even dive under water to catch bugs!

The more we know about spiders the less we will be afraid of them.
