National Geographic Magazine has been a longtime favorite for educators, parents and many more people alike. They have always offered some of the greatest articles, images and information to its magazine readers. As the times have changed, so has this company. Still making great educational publications, they have recently introduced a new education section, specifically for students and educators.
On this site you will find a map making tool, which can be useful in many situations. With six different themes, Map Maker Interactive lets users create their own custom map displays. You can choose from the different subthemes like Tectonic Plates. There is also a drawing tool with marker icons where you can use on whatever spot on your map you want. This is a great alternative to other mapping sites and programs.
There is also a multimedia gallery, where educators can have their own “view”. Here they can find discussion questions, fun facts and important key vocabulary terms that they can use with the different slides and videos found on the site. Pictures, videos and activities for children can all be found in this area, too.
The Education site also offers a collection of hands-on classroom activities, centering on geography and environmental sciences. Activities and projects are categorized by the recommended grade level.
This site is still a work in progress, as they are constantly working to add more resources and information for educators and children to use!
