Education is one of the greatest things in life that many people are not always fortunate enough to get. Whether it is environmental issues, financial issues or economic issues, there are many boys and girls that do not get to experience the task of going to school and learning. There are so many children that want this right, as they should, and work hard so that one day this can be possible for them. Education means opening a world of possibilities.
Room to Read’s Girls’ Education program aims to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. They work with local communities, organizations and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children. In addition, they support girls to complete secondary school with life skills they will need to succeed past their school years.
In this video, you can learn about 11-year-old Inkham, from Laos. This young girl, who lives with her family, does all of her chores with her mother before the school day even begins. At school, she loves learning about the Lao language and writing. She takes a special interest in these areas because when she gets home from school, she reads to her mother and father, who are mute.
It is with the great help from Room to Read’s Girls’ Education program, that Inkham has supplies, tools and other help from mentors to complete her education. She hopes to continue her education into secondary school where she plans to earn a scholarship to study at a university.
With Mother’s Day approaching us, a donation to this foundation would be a great gift! All gifts will be matched through May 31 up to $250,000! This is a great way to honor the women in your life by supporting the next generation of women.
