A Poem for My Gold Fish | Phonemic Awareness | Rhyming | Second Grade
This is a short poem that demonstrates the concept of Phonemic Awareness – Rhyming.
When I say I love you,
What does that mean?
If I were asleep
I’d make you my dream.
If I were a kettle,
I’d blow you some steam,
If I were the moon,
I’d send you a beam,
If I were a coach,
I’d make you a team.
When I say I love you,
What do you think?
If I were an artist,
I’d color you pink.
If I were a skater,
I’d build you a rink.
If I were a chain,
I’d send you a link.
If I were a sponge,
I’d clean up your sink.
If I were an eye,
I’d give you a wink.
Here are some questions you can ask your child or student:
- What words rhyme with steam?
- What words rhyme with think?
- Why do you think the author wrote this poem?
